Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing treatments unlock massive anti-ageing benefits and heal a range of stubborn skin conditions without a single cut to the skin. More traditional forms of skin resurfacing treatments, like a procedure known as CO2, involve beams of light vaporising the outer layers of the skin (ablative) to promote the growth of new collagen and elastin. But with new, innovative technology there is now a game-changing treatment option known as NeoGen PSR that doesn’t burn the skin’s surface. It’s a much more effective option than CO2 laser treatment as it has fewer complications, requires less downtime, and is much more gentle since it can achieve results without destroying the skin’s surface, unlike CO2.
It’s non-surgical and a mix of ablative and non-ablative solutions that use cutting-edge plasma technology to heat the skin and stimulate the growth of new skin cells and age-defying proteins for whole skin regeneration that renews ageing skin and promotes skin repair. We’re proud to say that Cardiff Cosmetic Clinic is the first clinic in Wales to offer this breakthrough NeoGen Plasma Skin Regeneration treatment! And we’re even more proud that the technology powering the device was developed at Cardiff University and harnessed by Energist, a leading Welsh tech manufacturer in the medical and cosmetics industry.

What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Plasma skin resurfacing treatment heats the underlying layers of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. These proteins occur naturally in the body but gradually decrease once we hit the age of 25, resulting in skin that’s more prone to fine lines, wrinkles and skin laxity. Advanced plasma technology, like that found in NeoGen PSR, unlocks anti-ageing benefits without destroying tissue, making it a perfect non-surgical option to iron out facial lines and lift and tighten jowls, ensuring you get tighter skin that’s undeniably smooth. It’s so effective that it even heals a whole range of skin conditions, including acne scars, lesions, skin discolouration, keratosis pilaris (chicken skin), and so much more.
How does Laser Skin Resurfacing work ?
Laser skin resurfacing heats the skin gently by emitting short controlled pulses of light into the dermis of the skin without destroying surface tissue. This deep thermal penetration is the key to kickstarting the anti-ageing and skin repair processes. NeoGen PSR, pioneer in plasma skin rejuvenation, differs from traditional laser skin resurfacing treatments as it doesn’t vaporise the outer layer of the skin. Instead, nitrogen plasma ensures the skin’s surface remains intact while new, healthy skin regenerates underneath. The outer layers slowly shed as it makes way for the new layer of skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How many treatments do I need?
NeoGen PSR skin resurfacing treatments are available in three energy settings for mild to intense results. The first is multiple low-energy treatments, which target small areas at a time. These require between 4 and 6 sessions, but the exact number depends on various factors like your skin type and desired results. The second option are mid-energy treatments, which require between 2 and 4 treatment sessions. And finally, 1 high-energy treatment, which is a one-off non-surgical facelift, targets the full face. We will determine your unique needs at the initial consultation and tailor your treatment accordingly.
- How quickly will I see results?
After treatment, the outer layer of the skin naturally peels off, and you will see visible improvements between 7 and 10 days.
- How long do results last?
Laser skin resurfacing with NeoGen PSR reaches deep layers of the skin for long-lasting results that continue improving for up to a year.
- What parts of the body can NeoGen PSR treatment be used on?
The treatment can be used on the whole body and face, with the most popular areas including the neck, décolletage, eye area, and hands.
- Is there any aftercare following the NeoGen PSR treatment?
Yes. Low to mid energy treatments usually require local anaesthetic cream, although paracetamol is enough for most low energy treatments. High energy treatments require local anaesthetic cream, oral analgesia, and sometimes gas and air. Rest assured that aftercare with NeoGen PSR is simple since it’s non-surgical. But for your added peace of mind, we will provide you with a leaflet to take home for aftercare guidance.
- Is downtime required after the treatment?
For low energy treatments, there is minimal downtime between 2 and 5 days. Mid energy treatments require downtime of up to a week. And a high energy treatment requires considerable downtime of up to 2 weeks.
- Are there any risks?
NeoGen is a low-risk laser skin resurfacing procedure that’s gentle with a quick recovery time. When done by an esteemed medical doctor like Cardiff Cosmetic Clinic’s founder, Dr. Raj, expect minor side effects like redness, swelling, and tenderness of the skin at the treated area.
