What is a Skin Tag? 

Skin tags, also called acrochordons, are small pieces of soft skin that cluster together to form a growth or lump. They consist of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels and can range from tiny bumps of a few millimetres up to 5 centimetres in size. Fortunately, this skin condition is benign or noncancerous. They often occur in the creases or folds of the skin, like, eyelids, armpits, under the breasts, groin, upper chest, and neck.

What causes Skin Tags?

The exact cause of this skin condition is unclear, but it may occur when clusters of collagen and blood vessels become trapped and form small pockets of hanging skin. It might develop when movement causes the skin to rub against itself, which is why it is common to find them in creases or folds of the skin. Because of this, skin tags are more widespread among people who are overweight or obese, pregnant women, and those with type 2 diabetes. Genetics and family history may also play a role in its formation.
