Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes skin on the face to look flushed with visible blood vessels, and flares up due to factors like diet, genetics, and the environment. Although there is no cure for it, there are a range of amazing aesthetic treatments available at Cardiff Cosmetic Clinic, from laser light treatments and plasma powered treatments to chemical skin peels that reduce the severity of rosacea, promote skin repair, leave your skin looking healthy, radiant and clear.

What is Rosacea?

Marked by a red pigmentation, rosacea is a common skin condition where blood vessels become visible on the face, giving you a flushed look. It may flare up for weeks or months, resulting in small, red, pus-filled bumps that may sting or burn when applying water or skincare products to the affected area. The most common areas affected by rosacea are the nose, cheeks, forehead and chin. It’s often mistaken for skin conditions such as acne because of the symptoms it presents during flare-ups.

What causes Rosacea?

Currently, there is no conclusive study determining the cause of rosacea. Experts believe it could be due to an overactive immune system or hereditary, diet, and environmental factors or a combination of factors. It isn’t caused by poor hygiene and isn’t contagious. Although very little is understood about rosacea skin condition, factors that trigger flare-ups are well-documented. Some of these include spicy foods, hot drinks, wine and other alcoholic beverages, drugs that dilate blood vessels (like blood pressure medication), exercise, temperature extremes, and exposure to the sun and wind.
